Vinted Members Express Anger Over Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present a different size category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Updates
Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
