The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The anticipation around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
