Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
